Summer Cross Country Training

“Cross Country: No half times, no time outs, no substitutions. It must be the only true sport.” –Chuck Norris

Cross Country is a unique sport that requires a mix of speed, strength, and stamina. Being prepared physically, nutritionally and mentally are the cornerstone for success in this sport. Athletes compete on 3 mile courses with various terrain and weather. In California most races are road type courses that are fast.

To compete at your absolute best, consistency in training is essential; what you put into it is what you get out of it. Summer training from June to September is important because this builds the foundation for the actual season and allows you to compete at your best in October and November.

RETURNING ATHLETES

Regardless of your current fitness level or background you must start NOW and get one foot in front of the other. It is a lot easier to do a little bit of building over a longer period than trying to cram like a final exam. Athletes will be placed into groups based on experience and fitness level. Adjustments will be made every 3 weeks based on progress.
